This past weekend I made my fourth trip to Amsterdam. This trip was mainly to say goodbye to my friend Justin there. I also used it as an excuse to finally visit these amazing gardens. The garden was established in 1949 (now celebrating it’s 60th anniversary with an Amsterdam vs New Amsterdam theme). The idea behind the garden was to present a flower exhibit where growers from all over the Netherlands and Europe could show off their hybrids- and help the Netherlands export industry. The country is the world’s largest exporter of flowers.
Keukenhof Gardens- Amsterdam
Keukenhof means “kitchen garden” as it was the garden off the kitchen of the castle that existed in the area years ago. Keukenhof is open annually from the last week in March to mid-May. Apparently the day we were there, 24 April, is the best day to see the tulips!
More on the gardens here.
Loads of pictures of the flowers here.
